This was the first r/c aeroplane that I had built. In fact, I built this before I learnt to fly and before I built my first trainer kit. You could say I was being a bit adventurous, as I really didn’t know what I was doing, but I number the P40 amongst my favorite warbirds and couldn’t resist starting. I had the sense to put the plane away until I had learned to fly.

As mentioned on the previous page, it has only had one flight-of about 15 metres from a hand launch, and stalled into the ground. Not too much damage fortunately. I then decided to put the plane away until I had better flying skills, and made a take- off dolly. Well, the dolly has been made, but I can’t bring myself to fly it-yet. The combination of high wing loading and tapered wingplan suggest that I will need to have my wits about me and good flying skills. Another possibility I have considered is building a new wing with better flying characteristics.
