My model of the Curtis P40 Warhawk is scratch built from a highly modified free plan of a P40 B Tomahawk by Gordon Whitehead in Radio Modeler Magazine many years ago. The only parts of the original plan used, apart from the method of construction, were shape of the fin/rudder/elevators, some fuselage formers and wing ribs.

The model has a wingspan of 44 inches and is powered by an OS 25 FP. It has only had one brief flight, and I will come to that shortly. It is finished in the colours of 78 Squadron RAAF. The aircraft, ‘HU-L’, A29-563, carried the name "Black Magic" on both sides of the cowl. The pilot, Flt Sgt Len Walters, was Australian Aboriginal.
