Civil Aviation Model Aircraft

The BEECH MODEL17 or better Known as the STAGGERWING.

A classic and very elegant airplane of the 1930's. This scale model is a real eye catcher and looks very nice flying in a clean configuration. Having a retractable under carriage, this aircraft was very advanced for it's time. There are now only about 100 examples of the full size aircraft in flying condition today.

CAP 231

I've been told that the CAP 231 is a CAP 21 with an Extra 300 wing. The French apparently won some championships with this configuration before the EXTRA 300 wings were made unavailable to them. I think that this model pictured here was damaged/destroyed on the Saturday after throwing a wing while doing some fast rolls.

CESSNA 152

At Shepparton, Murray Pearce had this 3.66 metre span Cessna 152. The 20 kg model has a Sachs-Dolmar 70 driving a 22x12 propeller. This is a Model Design Kit.

In the background is the impressive model Gee Bee. (see next picture)

GEE BEE R-2

As seen in the background of the previous picture and in this close-up view of the nose section, this model is nothing but spectacular. One of the highlights of the day was the flight of this model. It would be very easy to just leave this as a hanger queen. All action at the field ceased once the Gee Bee's mighty home built engine fired up. It had very low deep throated note to it.

All eyes where focused on this one aircraft as it took off. It flew for about 5 minutes unfortunately the engine was a bit of tune. This big machine was a bit of a handful on landing and on the second attempt landed a bit far down the field and ended up up side down.

CESSNA O2A

The military version of the Skymaster, from Hostetler plans by Norm Edmunds. The model is 3.05 metres span, weighs 16.8 kg, and is powered by two ST 3000s, the rear one running in reverse. There are two receivers and 11 servos to control the aircraft.
