On the last weekend
of September every year, The Radio Valley Model Flyers stage what must be the best display
of mammoth scale remote control aircraft seen in Victoria, Australia. This year I decided
to go up on the Saturday, this turned out to be a good decision as the weather was bester
and there were more models in attendance on this day rather than the Sunday. Shepparton is
a pleasant 2 hour drive from Melbourne. On arrival at the field, there was an
over-abundance of aircraft flying. I immediately got myself a pit pass and started
checking out all the models. I have photographed what I considered to be the most
interesting models there on the day, but all the aircraft on display |
|
were of a very high
standard. The highlights for me were, seeing the magnificent Gee Bee take to the air and
land (if not a bit ungracefully), as well as the B-17, SU-27, a German Bomber (the name
that escapes me)and the very stylish Stagger Wing flying. For the morbid of us, there was
a spectacular crash of an aerobatic aircraft when it threw a wing while doing rolls.
