The fan unit spooled up, everybody wondering if this was it, watched as the model hurtled down the runway. Near the end the Hawk rotated and climbed nicely into the air.

The whole flight looked very smooth although I know there was some fancy trimming going on. Once this was sorted out, thoughts then turned to the landing. Suddenly the noise stopped. Yep, the motor had cut! With a yell of "Dead Stick" Mick quickly sorted out the Hawk's approach as there was only one go at it. The Hawk was descending nicely and just had enough elevator to flatten out near the ground for a smooth touch down. There were great cheers from all the members who had stopped what they were doing to watch. Gary was rapt. A very successful maiden flight.
