L.D.M.F.A..............July 16 2000On July 16 2000 the Lilydale and District Model Flying
Association (LDMFA) held another of its 20 Lap handicap pylon racing events. This is
an event where you dont have to have a super fast pylon racer to win the day. You
are basically flying against yourself. This is not to say that the racing isnt close
and exciting, some of the more experienced pylon flyers have a lot of fun with some very
close racing and the first timer can get in there and have a chance to fly around the
course.

1,2, plane 3 is taking the scenic route
On this day, the weather was fine with a
slight breeze. We had an incredible turn up with 24 entries in the race with 14 models in
the RCM Xpert class and another 10 in the
open class.

And the clock is running, time to start the engines
For details of what the 20 lap handicap event
consists of, you can find out from John Hughans Pylon racing web site.

The business behind the timing cage.
The excellent attendance must be attributed
mainly to the rise in popularity of the RCM X-Pert common model project that originated
from Lilydale.

No.1 pylon, the green light goes on as the No.1 plane reaches
the pylon
With the increase in interest in
this event particularly from the growing ranks of the RCM X-PERTs, the future of this
event and pylon racing in general is looking good!

All the engines are running, time for the pilots to find a
spot to fly from.
In the X-Pert Class, the winners were:
1st Eddie Rich, 2nd Paul Schmidt and 3rd Garry Davidson
In the open class Nick Pointer won the
sports class. This was his first Pylon event having only recently received his bronze
wings.

And they're off!!!!

All the pilots have different ways of approaching the race.
This guy looks pretty relaxed!

Back at the pits there is much to talk about.

Identifying the aircraft prior to the start of the race.

Nice take-off!!!

A line of X-Perts starting up.
