My Mid-Airs......................30th June 96
Incident #3 - late 95

By this time I had built a replacement for the China Clipper (see Incident #1). It was my own design called a "Shriek Mk1" (see below). I had flown it in a few events since completion and it flew very well.

On this day I was practicing and test flying the plane. After some time I decided to go out wide and come in for a landing. There was only 1 other plane flying around at the time, a Bob Cat trainer. I thought I was a lot further out than the trainer and was surprised to see the 2 planes hit. There was a lot of debris flying everywhere but my plane stayed airborne with the motor still running. I immediately lined up for a landing, not knowing if my plane could stay in the air much longer. I landed and to my astonishment, I only had a chunk out of my vertical stabilizer. There were scuff marks from the other plane on mine from spinner to tail. I had basically flown right through the centre of the Bob Cat and come out the other end with my motor still running.

All these incidents were not really anybody's fault, but just one of those things. Hopefully I won't have to added any more to this page.
